New regional police chief sacks Davao City’s 19 station commanders

IN what looks like an effort to clip the police control of the former first family, the new regional police chief made an unprecedented move which effectively wiped out all 19 station commanders of the Davao City Police.

In an order issued on Monday afternoon, Police Regional Office in Davao (PRO-11) director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre reassigned all 19 station commanders of the Davao City PNP to different areas in the Davao region.

Interestingly, the relief order did not disclose the reason why they were sacked.

“Nineteen commanders or officers in charge of the 19 police stations of the Davao City Police office have been relieved effective July 8,” PRO-11 spokesperson Police Maj. Catherine dela Rey said in a statement.

The relieved officers, she added, were replaced by officers from the police provincial offices and the regional headquarters of PRO-11.

When asked what compelled PRO-11 to effect a “reshuffle,” Dela Rey said that such power falls well within “the duty of the regional director to assign or reassign officers.”

Affected by the relief order were:
