Newly appointed People’s Television (PTV) General Manager Antonio Baltazar “Toby” Nebrida Jr. said on Tuesday, June 18, that he will continue to work with its employees while upholding their right to express concerns.

In an interview with Palace reporters, Nebrida said he acknowledges the employees’ right to express their grievances.

Some workers from the PTV expressed support for their former General Manager Analisa Puod on Monday after the PTV Employees Association (PTEA) claimed that Puod was ousted from her position.

PTEA said Puod could get more shows on the network, which would mean fewer reruns, and that the former general manager was able to improve working conditions at PTV.

“I will work with them. If there are any objections, I will listen. Bahagi ng ating lipunan, ng ating demokrasya ang paghahayag,” Nebrida said.

“It’s ironic if I will not, as head, of the National Broadcasting Network, not to allow people to air their grievances, legitimate or otherwise,” Nebrida added.

While acknowledging the PTEA’s preference, Nebrida emphasized his gratitude for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s appointment. He described his return to PTV as “going home” and highlighted his focus on fulfilling the network’s mandate as the “people’s network.”

He emphasized his focus on three key areas: improving employee capabilities, refining program content to better serve the public, and upgrading technical infrastructure.

“I understand that ongoing reorganization has already started. We intend to pursue that organization. Anything, anything that will make the state, the status of our employees move to a better condition, that’s what we’re going to do, number one,” Nebrida said.

“We intend to continue what is already ongoing, and hopefully we can make it better, the objective being to make the programming of the station, of the network, more responsive, again, to the mandate of being the people’s network,” Nebrida added.

Nebrida also pointed out that they will find ways to improve the network’s technical capabilities, including the hardware and the infrastructure that PTV currently has.

He also aims to engage with PTV’s partners in the executive, in the legislative, and our other stakeholders so that the television network can fulfill the mandate that was given to the company. (TCSP)
