The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Wednesday, February 12, that it has recommended filing charges of inciting to sedition and grave threats against Vice President Sara Duterte.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed the recommendation during an interview on Super Radyo dzBB after alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“We have finally recommended the filing of inciting to sedition and grave threat against the Vice President,” NBI Director Jaime Santiago said on Super Radyo dzBB Wednesday.
“Naisubmit na nga po namin sa Department of Justice (DOJ) at ang magtitimbang timbang ng aming mga ebidensya ay ang DOJ, whether they will conduct a preliminary investigation on the matter,” he later added.
Sought for comment, Duterte said, “As expected.”
Last year, Duterte claimed she had arranged for their assassination should she be killed. She later clarified several times that her remarks were taken out of context.
The House of Representatives then impeached Duterte last week on charges including constitutional violations, betrayal of public trust, graft, and corruption.
A conviction, requiring 16 votes in the 24-seat Senate, would disqualify her from public office, including a potential presidential run she has said she is “seriously considering.” (TCSP)
