There seems to be a concerted and collective effort to bring down Vice Ganda and It’s Showtime when a botched kiss issue surfaced recently on social media.
Easily, Vice Ganda was targeted for not honoring her word a day after she said she would apologize to Axel Cruz, a searchee in the Expecially For You segment on It’s Showtime whom she thought was about to steal a kiss from searcher Christine.
In her speech, Vice Ganda stood by her initial reaction when she told Axel to ask permission first if he wants to kiss Christine or else he could be sued.
In her statement, Vice Ganda said she will not apologize to Axel as she did nothing wrong, more so when she learned that Christine felt off when Axel was about to kiss her.
CLOUT CHASERS?
Cashing in on the controversial issue, some celebrities made sawsaw, among them male starlets Nikko Natividad and Nico Locco.
In a now deleted post, Nikko sided with Axel, saying he was in the same boat when he was lambasted publicly on national television in the past.
Later, he explained why he deleted his social media post.
“For the last time na magsasalita ako tungkol sa nakaraan kong post. Unang una sa lahat, hindi ako nagsisisi na nagsalita ako ng sarili kong saloobin. Hindi ako nagsisisi na ipagtanggol ang ibang tao,” he said.
“Kung ikukwento ko ba pinagdaanan at iniyak ko sa kanila, magbabago ba tingin niyo sakin? Pero hindi naman yun ang intensyon ko na kumuha ng simpatya o makisali lang sa gulo,” Hindi po ako naghahanap ng kaaway, ang pagkakabura po ng post ko ay management decision, tunay at bukas sa isip at puso ko ang sinabi ko, payapa ang aking kalooban,” he added.
Nico, the Vivamax starlet joined the “fray” and posted a very scathing remark. Coward that he is, he did not name names in his post.
“Konting rant here kasi l’ve seen it going on for too long.
“Di ko sasabihin any names here… but i think we all know who l’m talking about.
“If you have to make fun of people and take personal shots at them palagi to make people laugh, it’s s0000 not funny. Para sa akin, it’s simply a lack of intelligence and creativity. I’m so tired of seeing it pa ulit ulit on tv.
“I won’t mention the show or network that repeatedly does it pero yeah, you know what I mean. Belittling someone to make people laugh doesn’t make you a comedian. It makes you a bully.
“I would love to see that specific person jump into their shoes for once para maramdaman niya what it feels like. Siguro he or she wouldn’t be laughing anymore.”
Recall that Nico and his starlet ex-girlfriend Christine Bermas recentlybappeared in the EXpecially For You segment of It’s Showtime.
TO THE RESCUE
In his Youtube vlog, Ogie Diaz shared the opinion of MTRCB Chairwoman Lala Sotto regarding the Expecially For You brouhaha.
“I don’t have an official statement. But , in my opinion, the hosts acted appropriately on the given situation.”
That was Lala’s statement.
Content creators and some celebrities also defended Vice Ganda’s action.
SUPREMACY IN THE NOONTIME SLOT
In its Facebook page, LionhearTV reported that It’s Showtime’ benefitted from the EXpecially For You fiasco as its rating consistently registered high, beating Eat Bulaga in the process.
“According to the latest ratings reports from the Nielsen NUTAM People survey, ‘It’s Showtime’ experienced a ratings increase following the explosion of the EXpecially For You controversy.
“On Friday, May 31, during the episode featuring Axel and Christine on EXpecially For You, ‘It’s Showtime’ garnered a rating of 7.4 percent, 4.0 percent higher than its rival show ‘EAT…Bulaga,’ which had a rating of 3.4 percent.
“The following day, Saturday, June 1, ‘It’s Showtime’ ratings climbed to 8.0 percent, boosting its ranking to the number 3 position on the overall Saturday leaderboard. ‘EAT…Bulaga’ on the other hand recorded a rating of 4.0 percent.
“On Monday, June 3, ‘It’s Showtime’ maintained its rating at 8.0 percent, which was 4.6 percent higher than ‘EAT…Bulaga’s’ 3.4 percent rating.:
