Puerto Princesa, Palawan – The Provincial Government of Palawan has hosted the semestral meeting of the Special Committee on Culture chaired by the National Commission of Culture and the Arts (NCCA) last June 10-12 in time for the province’s foundation festivities of Baragatan.
Several line agencies like Commission on Higher Education (CHED, Department of Education (DepED), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Trade and Industries (DTI) with National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) along with State Universities and Colleges in the region such as Mindoro State University, Romblon State University, Marinduque State University and Western Philippines University graced the semestral SCC meeting.
The group made most of the time despite the rainy weather in visiting the Tabon cave complex courtesy of the National Museum vying as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The following day, the capacity building sessions were imparted by NCCA mentors and managers on topics including cultural mapping and Philippine Development by no less Delan Robellos and Marichu Tellano respectively.
The Provincial Government of Palawan headed by Gov. Dennis Socrates have prepared a cultural night for the contingent and some exhibition under the auspices of this year’s reiteration of Baragatan Festival coinciding with the Independence Day commemoration. (RANDY NOBLEZA)
