Media briefing on govt’s peace efforts continues in Laguna

The seventh leg of nationwide media orientations on the government’s peace efforts takes place today, September 18 in Santa Rosa City, Laguna.

Led by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU), the briefing seeks the support of the Calabarzon media as instruments in promoting peace by reporting on the gains of OPAPRU’s Localized Peace Engagement and its transformation program.

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) partnered with OPAPRU on the nationwide activity under President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr’s call to end armed conflict and begin conversations about unity and transformation.

Cristina Arzadon, PIA CALABARZON Regional Head, cited the media as an important partner in the government’s peace advocacy, particularly in countering misinformation, disinformation and fake news.

“The PCO, PIA and OPAPRU recognize the media as instruments in promoting peace by reporting on issues that inspire, educate and uplift,” she said.

Arzadon added: “More importantly, beyond mere information dissemination, the PCO and PIA are dedicated to countering misinformation, an advocacy that our media partners likewise share.”

She noted that through the orientation, the PIA also hopes to empower former rebels who have chosen the path to reintegration into mainstream society as they rebuild their aspirations for their families.

Laguna is the 7th leg of regional media orientations which will cover a total of 15 regions until December, 2024. (PIA 4A)
