Actress and yoga instructress Maxene Magalona reflected on the value of forgiveness and how it improved her personality.
Maxene’s reflection came via an Instagram post about the importance of forgiving oneself.
“Forgiveness is never easy, but it is something that we must give to ourselves and others sincerely and wholeheartedly ” she initially said.
She shared that “When we get hurt, we hold on to grudges unconsciously because we think that by not forgiving those who wronged us, our pain and suffering will be justified.”
In retrospect, Maxene realized that “when I started my healing journey, I had to surrender and accept the fact that my past was already done and that there really was no point in dwelling on whatever happened.”
“I meditated and reflected on what was going on in my life until I finally came to the realization that the reason I was projecting so much anger towards the people around me was because deep down, I was angry at myself for all of my my past mistakes and failures. I allowed my past to define who I was which turned me into a negative and toxic person,” she said.
“This was when I decided to do the work to forgive myself completely for everything that I unconsciously put myself through’ she added, noting that “I sabotaged and disrespected myself by partying nonstop, not getting enough sleep, eating unhealthily, people-pleasing and staying in toxic relationships.”
“When I started to truly forgive myself, I cried and released so much pain. I felt lighter. I was actually wondering why I found it hard to forgive the people who unconsciously hurt me until I realized that it was because I hadn’t done the work to forgive myself first,” she said.
Maxene used to be married to Rob Mananquil. (NIGEL CHAVEZ DE ESTRADA)
