Marinduque Marks 106th Anniversary with Call for Heritage Contributions

BOAC, Marinduque — In commemoration of the 106th anniversary of its reestablishment, the Provincial Government of Marinduque has launched a public call for contributions to an upcoming heritage exhibition entitled “106 Years, 106 Stories.”

The initiative, spearheaded by the Marinduque Provincial Tourism and Cultural Office, invites residents—both on the island and across the globe—to submit photographs, artifacts, documents, and personal narratives that reflect the province’s cultural and historical journey. Contributions may come from individuals, families, schools, organizations, or barangays.

Accepted materials include family portraits, heirlooms, tools, clothing, coins, books, letters, certificates, journals, and archival records, as well as written accounts of family histories, notable events, and personal recollections. These items will form part of a community-led museum installation to be unveiled on February 21, 2026, during the celebration of Marinduque Day.

Honoring Heritage Through Shared Stories

The exhibition seeks to strengthen cultural identity, promote historical awareness, and foster unity by curating a “living museum of memories.” Organizers emphasized that the project aims to commemorate Marinduque’s 106 years of provincial history while encouraging intergenerational engagement in cultural preservation.

The collected stories will be organized into four historical periods:

– Early years (1919–1940)

– Mid-century (1941–1970)

– Modern era (1971–2000)

– Contemporary (2001–2026)

“As we prepare for the 106th Founding Anniversary of Marinduque, we continue to gather stories across time. Every voice, every memory, every legacy matters,” the Provincial Government said in its announcement.

Building a Museum Together

The commemorative exhibit underscores the importance of shared heritage through curated displays of photographs, artifacts, and narratives spanning more than a century. Organizers encourage residents and families to take part in the collective effort: *“Let us build this museum together — one story, one memory at a time.”*

Submissions may be coordinated directly with the Provincial Government of Marinduque, which will review contributions for inclusion in the exhibit.  (RANDY NOBLEZA)
