Marcos trust, performance rating rises, Duterte’s drops in Q2: OCTA

Vice President Sara Duterte’s trust and performance rating dropped while President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s figures rose during the second quarter of this year, OCTA Research said on Tuesday, August 27.

According to OCTA’s “Tugon ng Masa” poll taken from June 30 to July 5, Marcos’s trust score increased from 69 percent in the first quarter this year to 71 percent in the second quarter.

Duterte’s trust rating, meanwhile, declined by three percentage points from 68 percent in the first quarter of 2024 to 65 percent in the second quarter.

“This is the first time President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has registered a higher trust and performance rating than Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio based on TNM surveys in the last three years,” OCTA said.

“It must be noted that the VP Duterte trust and performance ratings continue to trend downward for the second straight quarter in 2024,” the pollster added.

Marcos’s performance still impressed over 68 percent of adult Filipinos, which is 3 percentage points more than the 65 percent noted in the previous quarter.

Duterte dropped her performance rating by four percentage points from 64 percent to 60 percent.

“It is noted that this is the second consecutive quarter in which her performance ratings recorded a decline,” OCTA said.

Marcos trust, performance rating

Marcos’s trust score rose by 8 percentage points following an 8% gain in Mindanao (56% from 48%), Duterte’s bailiwick, OCTA reported.

In Balance Luzon, Marcos got the greatest trust score—80 percent; Metro Manila came second with 70 percent; Visayas came third with 69 percent.

Among adult Filipinos classified as Class ABC (74 percent), OCTA noted Marcos’ trust rating rose by 22 percentage points; followed by Classes D (71 percent) and E (66 percent).

Marcos’ performance was also more favored by three percentage points to 68 percent from 65 percent noted in the first quarter of 2024.

Marcos’ performance rating rose by 8 percentage points in Mindanao (56 percent), then peaked in Balance Luzon at 75 percent.

In Metro Manila (68 percent) and Visayas (65 percent), his performance rating was likewise strong.

According to the poll, Marcos’ performance rating saw an 11 percentage point rise among adult Filipinos in Classes ABC (71 percent), followed by Classes D (68 percent) and E (64 percent).

Duterte’s performance rating

Duterte earned her highest trust and performance ratings in Mindanao with 95 percent and 92 percent, respectively, while her lowest ratings were in Balance Luzon with 52 percent and 42 percent.

Duterte received the highest trust and performance ratings from Class E—68 percent and 65 percent, respectively; her lowest scores came from Class ABC, with 64 percent and 56 percent.

According to OCTA, the poll was carried out from June 30 to July 5, 2024 and consisted in 1,200 male and female respondents aged 18 years and above via face-to-face interviews.

OCTA said the survey has a ±3 percent margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level. Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao have a ±6 percent margin of error for the subnational estimates for the geographic areas.  (TCSP)
