BAGUIO CITY — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. told the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) leadership to conduct a comprehensive review of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) curriculum to adapt to the evolving landscape of national and global security.
In his speech during the commencement exercises of the PMA “BAGONG SINAG” Class of 2024, Marcos explained that he wants to prepare the next generation of leaders with the skills necessary to face both conventional and asymmetric threats.
“The PMA has long been a reliable institution in nation-building. However, in this time of great complexity, the PMA needs to step up and take on the task of ensuring that the next generation of leaders in the country are ready for the emerging and future challenges,” Marcos said.
“I direct the DND and AFP leadership to review the PMA curriculum to ensure that our cadets will be equipped with the 21st-century skills necessary to counter conventional and asymmetric threats,” Marcos added.
Marcos underscored the significance of the digital battlefield and the necessity for cadets to possess a clear vision rooted in truth, integrity, and patriotism.
The President also reassured the members of the AFP of the government’s commitment to their welfare.
“To all the members of the AFP, be assured that this government has a continued assurance in improving the welfare and morale of our uniformed officials and personnel, and of course, to include your respective families,” Marcos said.
Earlier this week, Marcos has already urged the Philippine Army to further hone their skills as “[t]imes are changing, and we are facing new threats now to our nation’s security.” (TCSP)
