President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Thursday, February 06, that he is dissatisfied with his communications team’s performance in handling the media, particularly criticizing the format of “ambush interviews.”
Marcos said this in his media interview in Kalayaan Hall, Malacañang Palace after he promised last December that he would be more accessible to the press.
In the interview, Marcos asked Acting Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez to make a more structured and in-depth engagement with the press.
He also said he wants to hold regular monthly press conferences to ensure better engagement with the press and ensure that the Malacañang Press Corps, or the group of local journalists accredited to cover presidential and Malacañang events, have ample opportunity to ask questions and receive detailed responses.
“To tell you the truth, I’ve been a little bit dissatisfied with the ambush interview. Some of the things that we talked about are not simple na isang sound bite lang kuha na. Hindi puwede ‘yun,” Marcos said.
“I thought that we should have a proper press conference where you can ask questions. Take your time asking the question. Hindi tayo nagmamadali,” he added.
The press conference comes amid heightened media attention on the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, which the President acknowledged.
“I know I have been watching – of course, I’ve been watching the coverage on the impeachment proceedings in the different – both from the traditional media and social media, and maliwanag naman na marami kayong itatanong,” he said. (TCSP)
