President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, December 16, dismissed the notion of conducting a “loyalty check” among security forces during a recent command conference, calling the concept “stupid.”
Marcos made the remarks in an interview on the sidelines of a fellowship lunch in Malacañang after he presided over a security command conference at Camp Crame, Quezon City earlier this month.
“You have a command conference and then you say, ‘Loyal ka ba?’ Ikaw? ‘Loyal ka ba?’ Hindi ko naiintindihan ‘yung term na ‘yon because I don’t know how you conduct a loyalty check. At least not when you call a command conference,” Marcos told the media in the interview.
“In the military, in the police, we don’t have that. Wala kaming ganun. There’s no — I only hear it in the media, I was just wondering, what — how do you define a loyalty check? Anyway, it’s just a stupid question,” Marcos added.
Speculation about President Marcos holding meetings with top military and police officials surfaced online amid reports of tension between him and Vice President Sara Duterte.
It can be recalled that Vice President Sara Duterte recently threatened to have the President killed amid widespread criticisms of his leadership.
This was followed by rumors of a possible coup after former President Rodrigo Duterte urged the military to take action against what he described as a fractured government, further fueled by protests at the EDSA Shrine led by several Duterte supporters.
However, both the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) refuted claims that the President conducted a loyalty check during a recent command conference with senior officials. (TCSP)
