Makabayan Welcomes Teddy Casiño’s Entry into Senatorial Slate

Makabayan Coalition co-chairperson and concurrent Bayan Muna chairperson Neri Colmenares expressed his warm welcome to former Bayan Muna Representative Teddy Casiño as he joins the Makabayan senatorial slate.

Casiño  announced his candidacy for senator at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani, a fitting venue that honors the martyrs and heroes who bravely fought against the Marcos dictatorship.

“Teddy Casiño has been a steadfast activist for over four decades, tirelessly advocating for the rights and welfare of the Filipino people. As Bayan Muna representative in Congress he has authored many laws including the PAO Law and the law that limited rent increase for poor families. He, like the other Bayan Muna members in Congress, have not been tainted with corruption through his three terms.  His entry into the senatorial race strengthens our commitment to bring the people’s agenda to the forefront of governance,” said Colmenares.

Casiño’s candidacy will focus on challenging the continued dominance of corrupt dynasties and pushing for systemic change. He aims to present a progressive agenda that prioritizes the needs of the marginalized and oppressed sectors of society.

“We are proud to have Teddy Casiño as part of the Makabayan slate. His dedication to the struggle for genuine change and social justice is unwavering. We need more leaders like him in government who will truly represent the interests of the people,” Colmenares added.

Casiño’s candidacy is seen as a significant step in the ongoing effort to elect progressives in government positions. The Makabayan Coalition believes that his track record and commitment to the cause will inspire and mobilize the broad masses to demand meaningful change.

The Makabayan official also called on the public to support Casin̈o’s candidacy and the entire Makabayan senatorial slate, which now includes ACT Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro, Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Arlene Brosas, and Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) Secretary General Jerome Adonis, former Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Liza Maza and Pamalakaya secretary general Ronnel Arambulo.

“Teddy’s announcement is not just about his candidacy; it is a call to action for all Filipinos who aspire for a just and equitable society. Let us unite in this fight against oppression and corruption,” Colmenares concluded.
