If there’s one thing Maris Racal has achieved in being marupok, it is her ability to make profit out of  her vulnerability.

Yes, Virginia.  She turns her heartache into something that’s profitable.  For her, every  heartbreak is a potential to earn an income.

“Kung ang movie natin A+, ako marupok AF as in. Naalala ko sa sobrang rupok ko at broken hearted, nakagawa ng album.Pinagkakitaan ko ‘yung mga ginawa sa akin kasi hello kailangan ko ng pera,” Maris said during the presscon and screening of her latest movie, Marupok A+  (Where’s the Lie).

Maris made use of her downside in her private life as an opportunity to earn money from her experience.

“It’s me taking my power back, ‘Sinaktan mo ako, I’m gonna write a song about you,” she recalled in a recent interview.

Looking back, Maris could only laugh at her previous shenanigans in her private life especially in her early   20s.

“Napapa-deep breaths na lang ‘yung pamilya ko and ‘yung mga kaibigan ko. I think lahat naman dinaanan ‘yun. Dadaan tayo sa karupukan at d’yan tayo natututo,” she said.

Maris could only laugh from her previous experience in her love life, believing “ang importante what you do after being broken hearted — maging marupok pa rin.”

Royce Cabrera, Maris’ co-star in the movie, shared that he, too, was also marupok in the past.

“Aminado naman ako na isang beses naging marupok din ako, akala ko na parang kaya ko na tapusin, hindi pa pala. So, dumating din ako sa point na hinanap-hanap ko siya, ‘yung mga nakasanayan ko ganu’n, pero eventually natuto din naman ako,” Royce recalled.

Marupok A+ initially premiered at

Cinemalaya 2023 and is now showing exlusively at Ayala Malls. (NIGEL CHAVEZ DE ESTRADA)
