The Gabriela Women’s Party has called for stricter enforcement of respect inside Pinoy Big Brother (PBB): Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0 following an incident where female housemates denounced jokes and remarks that objectified women.
According to the group, the exchange among housemates reflects a broader cultural problem: the normalization of “vulgar jokes” among the youth.
Gabriela praised those housemates who explained why such comments are hurtful, stressing that these conversations are important steps toward building a culture of respect.
“Not all jokes are funny — especially when someone is objectified,” the group said.
They added that the incident serves as a learning moment not only for those inside the house but also for viewers in their homes and schools.
Gabriela urged PBB producers to provide gender-sensitivity seminars for all housemates to deepen their understanding of consent, boundaries, and the everyday sexism faced by women.
The group also called on the show to create guided discussions that would help young audiences recognize why objectifying comments are harmful, even if unintended.
The Gabriela Women’s Party expressed readiness to assist should the producers or the PBB team wish to integrate stronger gender education components into the program.
“It is important for the public to see that vulgarity has no place in Big Brother’s house,” the group emphasized. (RRN)
