AFTER a video goes wild over her supposed bossy attitude, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos broke her silence and insisted that their closeness were misinterpreted by people whom she claimed doesn’t have an idea on how close they are for the longest time.

“I’ve known Chiz since my law school days. He studied in UP and I went to Ateneo. We’ve been friends for like forever,” reads part of the statement issued by Araneta-Marcos.

In an effort to shed light as to “what exactly happened” on the Independence Day reception at Malacañang, Araneta-Marcos claimed that it was Escudero who approached her and jokingly told her, to quote – “Wow, bilib din naman ako sa iyo. May energy ka pa after standing for over an hour. I’m sure you could use a drink.”

“So whether I made him a waiter or he responded as a gentleman is between us,” the President’s wife averred.

Escudero previously said that he was just being a gentleman.

“I consider waiting on a lady (first or otherwise) to be gentlemanly,” Escudero said in a statement as the video showed First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos suddenly grabbing his glass of wine, casually taking a sip, handing him back the glass, then turning away to take another, this time from a waiter.

“Others may consider it traditional or being henpecked, but for me, being gentlemanly or mannerly is never about being traditional or out of trend, whatever others may call it.”

However, reporters covering the annual Vin d’Honneur which coincided with the Freedom Day recounted how Araneta-Marcos – without taking a look at the face of the person holding a glass of wine – took the drink that is supposed for the Senate President.

Then Escudero smiled as the first lady took a sip from his glass.

Netizens who saw the video have a lot to say about Araneta-Marcos’ close friend who rose to become the Senate President mustering enough number of legislators to vote for the ouster Senator Juan Miguel-Zubiri.

After being booted out, Zubiri blamed his fall to the “powers that be.” (ANGEL F. JOSE)
