The activist fishers’ group Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA) raises “doubt on the credibility, integrity, and independence” of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), a body leading the investigations of the flood-control anomalies.

The fishers’ group “suspects cover-up investigation and selective accountability”, citing the body’s closed-door hearings that exclude the public from an investigation involving the public funds.

“The Filipino people have been watching the developments of the investigation on the flood-control anomalies and yet this seemingly independent and transparent investigative body has already blindsided the public. How could we expect a significant result on this investigation from a pseudo-independent body that does not subject their hearings to public scrutiny and monitoring?” PAMALAKAYA said.

PAMALAKAYA said that they will continue to participate in the upcoming mass protests against corruption and for accountability.
