Enrile: PH is in danger after Duterte’s threats

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile warned on Sunday, November 24, that the whole country is in danger after Vice President Sara Duterte made more criticism and threats against the Marcos Jr. administration.

“We are a democracy. We just had recently elected a president and a vice president under our Constitution Now, it seems, some people want a regime change. What do we really want?,” Enrile wrote in a Facebook post.

“Do we want a stable a peaceful and society? Or do we want an anarchic social condition? WHAT? Let us be more clear about what we want. Let us bring it out into the open and debate it, and let the whole society decide. Let us be very careful about the matter. So much is involved! So many people are going to get hurt! The whole nation is at stake,” Enrile added.

Enrile also mentioned that there will be potential consequences of such a shift, urging the public to examine their goals critically.

He suggested that calls for regime change—while not uncommon in politically charged times—might not be the answer, and wait until election time in 2025.

Duterte said last Saturday, November 23, that she would have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez assassinated if she were to be killed.

She made this statement during a virtual press conference early that morning, where she criticized the House of Representatives’ decision to transfer her chief of staff, Atty. Zuleika Lopez, from the House detention facility to the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.

Duterte later clarified that her remark about having the Marcos family members assassinated was not intended as a threat.

“So much spinning! So much fearmongering. For what? For power? For killing? For personal interest and glorification? For revenge and retribution? For just violent adventurism? What is really behind all this noise? Patriotism, power hunger, or just plain self-interest?” Enrile said in a separate Facebook post.

Enrile then warned the public to be cautious in the face of what he described as “alarmist adventurers.”

He added that Filipino people should not to be led blindly by those pushing for a change that may destabilize the country.

“Turning back would be too risky and arduous. Think and ponder very carefully before you jump into the abyss!!!” he warned. (TCSP)
