Duterte supporters blamed for fake news vs. Marcos family

The Marcos administration has pointed fingers at supporters of the Duterte administration for the recent wave of disinformation targeting the First Family.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, March 25, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos have been frequent subjects of false narratives, which she claims intensified after Vice President Sara Duterte’s relationship with the Marcoses soured.

“Ever since, tina-target na sila ng fake news. Hindi ito bago,” Castro said when asked about reports of disinformation against the First Family.

“Simula nang hindi naging maayos ang pagtingin ni VP Sara sa pamilya Marcos, nag-start na po ang fake news,” she added.

When pressed on whether she was accusing the Vice President or the Duterte political network of orchestrating the attacks, Castro stopped short of naming them directly but cited a journalist’s study.

“There is this study made by a journalist. He made a study that there is this country with the network that really propagate negative news or info or misinformation specifically against the President and favoring the Vice President,” Castro said. (TCSP)
