Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Representative Leila de Lima has urged Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla to investigate and punish prosecutors allegedly loyal to former President Rodrigo Duterte.
De Lima’s call comes after Remulla ordered Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon to withdraw the motion for reconsideration filed by Provincial Prosecutor Ramoncito Bienvenido Ocampo, Jr. and his panel, which opposed the court’s decision to dismiss the charges against her.
“Insofar as my case is concerned, they still answer to the Duterte cabal, just like many others in government who remain loyal to FPRRD. By accepting promotions in exchange for their loyalty to Duterte, they’ve compromised their positions in government—they’re serving not the DOJ, but FPRRD,” De Lima said in a statement.
She commended Remulla for calling the prosecutors’ move “foolishness” and praised his decision to personally take charge of the case and seek its dismissal.
De Lima also shared how she spent nearly seven years in detention, attributing her imprisonment to what she described as the “conscience-less” actions of the prosecutors involved.
“Halos pitong taon akong ipinakulong sa tulong na rin at kooperasyon ng mga prosecutor na ito na tila ba walang konsensya sa pagyurak nila hindi lamang sa akin kundi sa ating sistemang legal,” said De Lima.
“Ganun na lang ba yun? If they are allowed to get away scot-free with what they have done, no one is safe. They should be made to account for what they have done,” she added. (ZIA LUNA)
