Former President Rodrigo Duterte made a controversial joke about killing 15 senators amid the ongoing impeachment case against his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte.
During the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) senatorial proclamation rally at Club Filipino in San Juan City on Thursday, February 13, Duterte said he wanted to kill lawmakers as he and his son, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte criticized the current political landscape.
“Ngayon, marami kasi sila. Ano dapat ang gawin natin? Eh di patayin natin iyong mga senador ngayon para bakante. Kung makapatay tayo ng mga 15 na senador, eh di pasok na tayo lahat,” Duterte said.
“But, they’d be pitiful. Yet they’re irritating — not all of them, though. Talking of opportunities, the only way to do it is to use a bomb,” he added.
The younger Duterte also took a swipe at the Marcos government, calling the current administration “abusive and oppressive.”
“Habang nagsusumikap tayong humakbang patungo sa isang maunlad na bukas, ay pilit naman tayong hinihila pabalik ng administrasyon ni Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa isang mapang abuso at mapagmalabis na pamahalaan,” the Davao City mayor said in his prepared speech during the event.
Their remarks came as Vice President Sara Duterte faced an impeachment complaint for allegedly making threats against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The complaint, lodged in the House of Representatives, accused her of acts amounting to a betrayal of public trust, further fueling political controversy around the Duterte family.
Speaking in an online press conference last December, the Vice President said, “Pag pinatay ako, patayin mo si BBM, si Liza Araneta, at si Martin Romualdez. No joke. No joke.” (TCSP)
