Former President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday, November 13, revealed that he personally killed four Chinese individuals in a drug raid that took place in Davao City when he was mayor.
“In one drug den sa Davao City, apat na Chinese pinatay ko talaga. Ang problema, may tinamaan na dalawang nagluluto. Pero ang apat na [Chinese] talagang pinatay ko. Sinadya kong patayin,” Duterte said during the House QuadComm probe on drug war killings during his administration.
When pressed by Sta. Rosa, Laguna Representative Danilo Ramon “Dan” Fernandez, who asked, “Is this an admission of killing?”, Duterte responded affirmatively. He justified his actions by claiming that the individuals had fought back against the police during the raid.
“Yes, because they fought back. Of course, during a raid, there’s a scramble for whatever they can grab. They fight back, but I would say not everyone is resisting. When there’s a police operation, the police know that I fund all of that. Once they accomplish it and there’s a surplus, I tell them, “That’s yours. For the boys,'” Duterte explained.
He also told Gabriela Women’s Party-list Representative Arlene Brosas that he killed several illegal drug users during his administration’s brutal war on drugs in his hometown.
This is after Brosas asked Duterte about the number of drug suspects killed under his administration’s aggressive anti-drug campaign.
“Didn’t they (illegal drug users) die during that time?” Brosas asked, to which Duterte responded, “Most of them.”
The conversation escalated when Brosas asked if Duterte had personally killed anyone during his presidency.
“Me? Many. About 6 or 7. I didn’t follow up in the hospital to see if they made it.” (TCSP)
