The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is bent on securing loans even as a top official hinted at relocating what he described as congested regional airports in the south.
Among the airports considered for relocation include those in Zamboanga, Dumaguete, Siargao, and Masbate.
Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista however clarified that it is still a long road before the mothballed relocation could materialize.
“We have identified the areas where it will be relocated… so slowly, the government is buying the properties. It will take some time,” said Bautista, adding that the agency has received feelers from international financial institutions willing to bankroll the project.
“There are agencies or countries that are willing to finance or extend the financing to complete these airports,” Bautista further said.
He however did not say which areas where new airports would be constructed had already been acquired. (ANGEL F. JOSE)
