PAGEANT aficionados are eagerly awaiting on what would happen at the sidelines of what is more like a grand reunion of beauty queens, which would include the controversial Maria Isabel Lopez in her capacity as 1982 Bb.Pilipinas – Universe.
The grand reunion, which coincides with the Bb. Pilipinas 60th anniversary, will be held tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Previously, Lopez hinted at taking part in the event despite the embarrassment she suffered 25 years ago when Bb Pilipinas Charities Inc. chair Stella Lopez – Araneta ordered the arena’s security personnel to escort the 1982 Bb.Pilipinas – Universe out of the venue.
Lopez also nearly lost her title after her nude photos were published in the Playboy Magazine and appearing in movies embarking on frontal nudity.
Roughly 100 former beauty queens who reigned in the last 60 years are expected to attend the grand reunion which will take place along with the 2024 Bb. Pilipinas Coronation Night.
To recall, Lopez in an interview with talk show hosts Kris Aquino and Boy Abunda, recounted the ordeal she has gone through following her ejection during the 2009 pageant night.
“You can stop me from attending the Bb. Pilipinas pageant at the Big Dome. But you cannot stop the fact that I am Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1982 and here’s my sash and that will not be taken away from me. That’s all. Thank you,” Lopez said in an apparent swipe at Lopez-Araneta.
“Mabuti pa sa Miss Gay Philippines welcome ako, judge pa ako. Doon na lang ako sa mga bakla,” she quipped. (ANGEL F. JOSE)
