De Jesus stuns top seed, reaches PSC-Philta boys’ 18-U q’finals

Lorenz De Jesus ousted top seed Frank Nhiele Dilao, 6-2, 7-6 (3), Friday, to reach the boys’ 18-under quarterfinals in the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Tennis Association (PSC-Philta) tournament at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.

De Jesus will be up against Anirudh Palnisamy, who conquered Phil John Amora, 6-2, 6-3.

Second seed France Dilao waylaid Joakin Sison, 6-0, 6-1; third seed Adrian Cagitla downed Bryan Lester Malbog, 6-2, 6-0; and fourth seed Antonio Ng Jr. prevailed over Yuri Rafael Aparte, 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0, to secure quarterfinal slots.

In the boys’ 16-under, top seed Gavin Kraut demolished Jefferson De Leon, 6-0, 6-0, to also advance, along with Yanyou Zhou, Fritsmichael Almiron, Raffeal Hermogenes, Prince Alano, Ruben Otadoy, Vince Lorenzo and Novak Brazal.

Booking quarterfinal berths in the boys’ 14-under category were JFSKY Berille, Vivaan Garg, Antonio Bengzon, Jacob Gonzales and Jayden Lazaro.

Meanwhile, top seed Jayden Reece Ballado outclassed Maxine Silayan, 6-0, 6-1, while second seed Avegail Joy Ansay won over Zoe Ching, 6-2, 6-0, to lead the quarterfinalists in the girls’ 16-under category.

In the girls’ 18-under category, top seed Mikaela Rose Ngu defeated Clint Haela Muyot, 6-2, 6-1, to arrange a semifinal meeting with Shara Paynor, who demolished Jhane Frances Ilagan, 6-0, 6-0.

Second seed Shiloh Louisa Cruz, a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Mikyla Nicole Compuesto, will face Kitlin Elem, who trounced Felicia Araneta, 6-4, 6-1. (PNA)
