Comelec: Disqualification Case Against Tulfo Political Dynasty Can Be Refiled

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that the disqualification case against members of the Tulfo family, accused of forming a political dynasty, can be refiled if the petitioner provides the necessary documents.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized that the case, previously dismissed on a technicality, could proceed if proper attachments are submitted.

Lawyer Virgilio Garcia had earlier filed a petition to disqualify several Tulfo family members, including ACT-CIS Representative Erwin Tulfo, reelectionist Quezon City and ACT-CIS Representatives Ralph Wendel Tulfo and Jocelyn Tulfo, Turismo party-list nominee Wanda Tulfo-Teo, and senatorial candidate Ben Tulfo.

The petition argued that their candidacies violated the constitutional prohibition on political dynasties.

The case was dismissed due to the petitioner’s failure to submit required documents, preventing Comelec from evaluating its merits.

Chairman Garcia stated that if a ruling is made and later deemed to involve grave abuse of discretion, the case could be elevated to the Supreme Court (SC) for resolution.

In an interview with the Philippine Star’s online show *Truth on the Line*, Garcia stressed the importance of addressing the political dynasty issue before the 2028 presidential elections.

He added that in the absence of legislation, Comelec might take steps that could guide the SC in interpreting similar cases in the future. (ZIA LUNA)
