JUSTICE seemed elusive for the family of missing beauty queen Catherine Camilon following the dismissal of a complaint filed against a ranking police officer whom witnesses claimed was behind the disappearance.
Cleared of charges ranging from kidnapping and serious illegal detention are Police Major Allan Avena de Castro, Jeffrey Magpantay and two John Does.
Camilon, who has been missing for the last six months, was spotted in a shopping mall in Lemery, Batangas hours before she went missing on October 12.
Prior to her disappearance, Camilon’s mom Rosario said that her daughter informed her of a meeting with Balisong Channel in Batangas City. However, a statement issued by the station claimed that their former talent hasn’t been to their office since December 2021.
Months after Camilon went missing, the Philippine National Police (PNP) pressed charges against de Castro for kidnapping and serious illegal detention based on witnesses account claiming to have seen de Castro’s bodyguard and two others transferring a body of a blooded woman from one vehicle to another on the same night that she disappeared.
Police investigators said the Camilon case may have something to do with an illicit affair between the police major and the beauty queen.
De Castro later on admitted to having an affair with Camilon in late 2023, for which he was dismissed from service due to conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
De Castro is married with two kids. (ANGEL F. JOSE)
