Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced on Monday, October 7, that his brother, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, will be the new secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Cavite Governor will succeed Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., who is pursuing a Senate seat.
“[Jonvic is] scheduled to have an oath-taking tomorrow morning. In fact, I think he’s withdrawing from candidacy as we speak,” Remulla told reporters in a chance interview.
When asked for his thoughts, the governor said that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. should make the official announcement.
Secretary Remulla stated that he supports his brother’s appointment, emphasizing that it will significantly enhance the country’s justice system.
He pointed out that the DILG, the Department of Justice, and the Supreme Court are all integral components of the Justice Sector Coordinating Council (JSCC).
“The commitments can be made instantly because the two of us can always talk about what has to be done. Mas maganda ang coordination niyan,” Remulla said.
“Like minds, tsaka, we only want the best for the country. Wala tayong ibang motive dito,” he added.
Sec. Remulla added that with his brother at the DILG, they would be able to accelerate the training of police and police prosecutors. (TCSP)
