Former Rep. Arlene Brosas of Gabriela Women’s Party slammed First Lady Melania Trump’s unprecedented role presiding over a United Nations Security Council meeting on children and education in conflict, calling it “the height of hypocrisy” as U.S. military strikes in Iran continue.
Brosas said Trump’s remarks on “advancing tolerance and world peace” ring hollow against the backdrop of bombs, sanctions, and escalating attacks that endanger millions of children.
“Education cannot thrive where there is war. Children cannot dream of a future while imperialist powers destroy their homes, schools, and communities,” she stressed.
She described the move to have a First Lady chair the Security Council as a “public relations spectacle” aimed at sanitizing the image of a government actively fueling armed conflict.
Brosas also pointed to lingering questions over the Trump family’s past ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, saying any claim to moral authority on child protection must confront all forms of abuse and exploitation.
(RRN)
