Former Bayan Muna Congressman Ferdinand Gaite today called on the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to take immediate action to assist Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) affected by the escalating conflict in Lebanon.

“The situation for our kababayans in Lebanon is becoming increasingly dangerous by the day,” said Gaite. “The DFA must put forward a comprehensive plan to address the urgent appeals for rescue and assistance from Filipino migrants caught in the crossfire of this conflict.”

Gaite announced that families of Lebanon-based OFWs, led by Migrante International, will be staging a picket dialogue in front of the DFA offices to demand concrete action.

“We are challenging the DFA and other government agencies such as the Department of Migrant Workers to outline specific steps they will take to ensure the safety and well-being of our OFWs,” Gaite stated. “This includes facilitating the swift repatriation of those who wish to return home.”

The former congressman emphasized the need for clear communication and support for affected OFWs and their families. “Our workers abroad and their loved ones here at home need reassurance that the government is doing everything possible to protect them during this crisis,” he added.

Gaite urged the DFA to prioritize the concerns of OFWs and called for transparency in the government’s plans and actions regarding the situation in Lebanon.#
