Airfares will climb in March as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) announced a fuel surcharge increase for both domestic and international flights next month.
In an advisory uploaded on its website on Tuesday, February 18, CAB upgraded the fuel surcharge rate for March to Level 5 from Level 4 in October.
“Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file its application with this office on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level,” the CAB said.
Under Level 5, passengers on domestic flights will incur fuel surcharges ranging from P151 to P542, depending on the flight distance.
For international flights, the surcharge will be between P498.03 and P3,703.11.
In comparison, under the current Level 4, domestic flight surcharges range from P117 to P342, while international flights departing from the Philippines have surcharges between P385.70 and P2,867.82.
A fuel surcharge is an additional, optional fee that airlines may charge passengers to offset the fluctuating costs of jet fuel, separate from the base fare. (TCSP)
