CPP, NPA to honor Jalandoni with Red salute on June 12

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) instructed the New People’s Army (NPA) to give a Red salute to National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) Negotiating Panel senior adviser Luis G. Jalandoni, on Thursday.

To pay tribute to Jalandoni as “a hero of the Filipino people,” the CPP Central Committee commanded all NPA units to assemble at dawn on June 12 and carry out a “silent 21-gun salute.”

According to CPP chief information officer Marco Valbuena, the Central Committee’s message honoring Ka Louie will be read during the nationwide event.

“In recognition of Ka Louie’s exemplary and great contributions to the Filipino people’s revolutionary struggle, let us give him our firmest Red salute, and celebrate his extraordinary life,” the CPP said on Tuesday.

Jalandoni, also NDFP chief peace negotiator from 1995 to 2016 died in Utrecht, The Netherlands last Saturday, June 7. He was 90 years old.

He was also NDFP vice chairperson for international affairs and head of delegations.

“Ka Louie showed unwavering commitment to the people’s revolutionary aspirations. To his last breath, he marched with the people in their struggles for national and social liberation. Comrade Louie sacrificed all personal and material interests and gave everything to the welfare of the masses,” the CPP’s top leadership said.

“Ka Louie rejected the reactionary government’s schemes to divide the people and make them surrender their ideals with appeals to personal interests or ambitions. Let us emulate Comrade Louie for his unending revolutionary commitment,” it added. #
