4 officials axed, 21 retained, new SEC chair named

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin Jr. announced that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. retained 21 government officials. These are: Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III, Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority director general Jose Francisco Benitez;

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Health Secretary Ted Herbosa, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco;

Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile, Presidential Management Staff Secretary Elaine Masukat, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairperson Romando Artes;

Mindanao Development Authority chair Leo Terezo Magno, Bureau of Internal Revenue commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr., Bureau of Customs commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, National Treasurer Sharon Almanza, and Presidential Adviser for Mindanao Concerns Antonio Cerilles.

Marcos has ended the tenure of Meynard Sabili, chairperson of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor; Terence Calatrava, presidential assistant for the Visayas; and Almarim Tillah, presidential assistant on Muslim affairs.

The services of Menandro Espineli as presidential adviser for special concerns was terminated by the President.

Bersamin added that Marcos named lawyer Francis Lim as the new chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, replacing SEC chair Emilio Aquino, whose term will end on June 5.

The President is currently considering his selection for his initial appointee to the Supreme Court.
