WITH the so-called “limited transfer” of the phenomenal big man inside the Japanese playing court coming to an end, the Filipino basketball sensation seemed headed for a relatively bigger league – the NBA where the best cagers in the world have amassed fortune.

But not after helping the Philippine team regain the FIBA crown.

According to Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone, the seven-foot three inches tall Kai Sotto has set his sight towards the NBA camp “doing some NBA things.”

Cone however assured that Sotto “will be back in the third week of June to join us.”

In an announcement posted on its Instagram account, the Yokohama B-Corsairs said that they’ve parted ways with Sotto.

“We would like to inform you that the limited transfer period of Kai Sotto, who joined from Hiroshima Dragonflies with a limited time transfer, has expired,” reads the Instagram post.

The Philippine team is set to resume practice on June 21 in preparation for the 2024 FIBA Olympic qualifying tournament, even as Cone admitted that Gilas Pilipinas is expecting a lot from Sotto who has shown an immense talent at the Japanese B. League.

”When I watch Kai practice, and when I watch him play, he’s just absolutely dominant,” said Cone.

“There’s so little he cannot do. He does lack a little bit of strength in terms of fighting for position, but I think that’s gonna come with age. He is going to be the main guy, one of the main guys, if not, the main guy on our team, and that’s going to grow him. He’s gonna evolve and get better,” the country’s top professional basketball league coach noted.

“He’s only 21 years old, he’s not even developed in his body yet. The sky’s the limit.”  (ANGEL F. JOSE)
