Marcos Jr. ready to call Senate special session to address VP Sara’s impeachment

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. indicated on Thursday that he would be open to convening a special session of the Senate to address the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Senate President Chiz Escudero noted that the Senate needs to be in session to act as an impeachment court, but emphasized that a special session called by the President would primarily focus on urgent legislative matters.

“Certainly, if a special session is called, we will attend, regardless of our opinions,” he stated.

Marcos Jr. mentioned in a news conference that he could initiate a special session regarding the impeachment.

“If the senators ask for it, yes,” he said. “Again, they will be the ones to decide, not us. If the Senate President calls me up on the telephone, ‘I talked to the senators about having a special session.’ ‘Sure.’ I will do it. But if there’s no such request, it means that they are busy with something else. They are not yet ready.”

Former Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares argued that the “only way forward” is for Marcos to call a special session to meet the public’s demand for the impeachment trial to move ahead. (ZIA LUNA)
