Various groups and individuals who filed impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara are mobilizing voters to support senatorial candidates who favor her removal from office.
“Magiging usapin ang impeachment sa eleksyon. We will have to shift the campaign para ipanalo ang mga senador na pro-impeachment. Magiging usapin sa eleksyon at manghihikayat tayo ng mga mamamayan na iboto ang mga senador na mag-i-impeach kay Sara Duterte,” stated Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) chairperson Teddy Casiño, who led 70 representatives of progressive groups in filing the second impeachment complaint against VP Sara.
Casiño mentioned that they are open to the possibility that the impeachment trial could extend into the 20th Congress or after the midterm elections in 2025, making it a significant issue in the upcoming elections.
“The complainants are united in calling on Congress to take action on our impeachment complaints as soon as possible and consolidate them, whether they will support just one during the allotted session days until February 7,” Casiño said.
“We want Speaker Martin Romualdez to send our complaints to the committee on justice so that they can be discussed and decided on. Next week, we will ramp up our efforts to have Congress take action on this,” he added.
The groups will launch a series of mass actions on January 18, 25, 27, and 31, to urge Congress to address the three pending impeachment complaints against the Vice President.
They will issue a joint statement during a press conference that will include the complainants and supporters of the impeachment complaints. (ZIA LUNA)
