President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday, November 29, admitted that he urged lawmakers not to file an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, stressing that it would only waste time and resources without benefiting Filipinos.
In a media interview in Lucena, Marcos admitted the leaked communication about his appeal yesterday, November 28, was genuine and that he strongly disapproved of the impeachment talks, calling them “unnecessary distractions.”
“Well, it was actually private communication, but na-leak na, yes. Because that’s really my opinion: This is not important. This does not make any difference even in one single Filipino life, so why waste time with it?” Marcos said.
“What will happen if somebody files an impeachment? It will tie down the House, it will tie down the Senate. It will just take up all their time and for what? For nothing. For nothing. None of this will help improve a single Filipino life. As far as I am concerned, it’s a storm in a teacup,” Marcos added.
Duterte, once an ally of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., disclosed back in August that a plan to impeach her was brewing in the House of Representatives.
This came amid the ongoing investigation into the P125 million in confidential funds that were not included in the 2022 General Appropriations Act.
The Vice President is also under investigation for her recent statement that she had enlisted someone to kill President Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez in the event of her assassination. (TCSP)
