The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed a P96.5-million flood control project in response to the recurring threat of flooding along the Sabang River, safeguarding lives and properties in General Luna, Quezon Province.
DPWH Quezon Third District Engineer Jorge C. Pasia reported to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan that the newly constructed 182-linear-meter flood control structure along the right bank of the Sabang River in Barangay San Jose serves as a formidable barrier against rising waters, mitigating the devastating impacts of floods that have plagued residential areas in the past.
In addition, a 40-linear-meter bridge was also constructed to improve connectivity and ensure swift access between Barangay San Jose and Barangay Sta. Maria Ibaba, facilitating timely response and evacuation measures during emergencies.
“By bolstering our defenses against natural calamities, we are not only protecting lives and properties but also fostering sustainable development and economic growth,” said District Engineer Pasia.
The flood control structure and bridge also contribute to the aesthetic enhancement of the riverfront, creating a scenic and inviting environment for residents and visitors. (ANTONIO)
