President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday, September 26, bared the 12 senatorial candidates he would endorse in the 2025 midterm elections.
Marcos bared the 12-man lineup during the “Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas” event in Pasay City just a week before Comelec opens the filing of candidacies for the 2025 midterm elections.
The 12 senatorial candidates came from various political groups, such as the Partido Federal ng Filipinas, the Nationalist People’s Coalition, Lakas-CMD, and the Nacionalista Party. Some in the lineup are reelectionists, former senators, congressmen, and a Cabinet secretary seeking a first term in the Senate.
Makati Mayor Abby Binay, Congresswoman Camille Villar, Congressman Erwin Tulfo, and Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos III are all running for their first terms in the Senate.
Abby Binay, the sister of Nancy Binay, is in her third and final term as mayor of Makati. Camille Villar, the daughter of Senator Cynthia Villar, currently serves as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. Erwin Tulfo, who previously served as secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) from June to December 2022, is currently the ACT-CIS Representative.
Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and Marcos Jr.’s sister Imee are both running for reelection in 2025. Imee is running for a second term in the Senate. Sotto, who served as Senate President from 2018 to 2022, is also seeking a senatorial post next year after losing to Sara Duterte as Vice President in the 2022 national elections.
Boxer Manny Pacquiao and Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, both former senators were also included in the lineup. The two sought a Presidential post during the previous election but lost to President Marcos Jr.
Showbiz personalities Lito Lapid and Bong Revilla, as well as current Senators Pia Cayetano and Francis Tolentino are also considered reelectionists. Imee Marcos, Bong Revilla, and Francis Tolentino were members of the UniTeam during the 2022 National Elections. TCSP
