The Makabayan Coalition proudly announces the addition of Amirah Lidasan as the 11th senatorial candidate for the upcoming elections. Lidasan, who has been a dedicated advocate for human rights and the self-determination of Moro and Indigenous Peoples, brings a wealth of experience and passion to the slate.
Makabayan Coalition co-chairperson and former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares expressed his enthusiasm for Lidasan’s candidacy, stating, “We are thrilled to have Amirah Lidasan join our senatorial slate. Her unwavering commitment to justice and her tireless advocacy for the rights of the marginalized and indigenous people make her an invaluable asset to our team.”
Lidasan, currently serving as co-chairperson of Sandugo – Movement of Moro and Indigenous Peoples for Self Determination has been an activist since her student days at the University of the Philippines’ College of Mass Communications. Her work has consistently focused on the struggles of the Moro and Indigenous communities, highlighting the importance of their right to self-determination.
“Amirah’s candidacy is a testament to the diversity and strength of our coalition. Her voice will amplify the issues of the Moro and Indigenous Peoples in the Senate, ensuring that their struggles and aspirations are heard and addressed,” Colmenares added.
