Rep. Castro Calls VP Duterte’s Naga Another Squid Tactic Amid Confidential Fund Issue

House Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro has criticized Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent visit to former Vice President Leni Robredo in Naga City, labeling it as another “squid tactic” to divert public attention from pressing issues.

“While the visit is described as personal and not political, we must remain vigilant and focused on the more significant issue at hand—holding Vice President Duterte accountable for the P125 million in confidential funds spent over just 11 days in 2022,” said Rep. France Castro.

The visit, which took place during the Peñafrancia Festival, was confirmed by Robredo’s former spokesperson and described by Robredo as a conversation of personal nature, not political.

Rep. Castro emphasized, “We should not be sidetracked by these maneuvers. The public deserves transparency and accountability, particularly on matters involving public funds. The questions surrounding the use of these confidential funds must be addressed and clarified.”

“Pumunta na lang din siya sa Naga ay dapat na tularan ni VP Duterte si former VP Robredo sa pagharap sa budget briefing at plenary deliberation ng OVP budget,” added the Deputy Minority leader.

She further urged, “We must concentrate on demanding accountability and transparency from our leaders. This is crucial for democracy and governance.”

Rep. Castro reiterates the necessity of prioritizing accountability over personal alliances.

“While personal ties exist, it should not overshadow the need for accountability in public service,” Rep. Castro concluded.#
