Meryl Streep was one of the many faces of Hollywood that made an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s Unite for America in an attempt to help Kamala Harris’ bid for president.However, it was not without the issues of live broadcasting as Meryl was sure to slip up.
“Hello President Harris,” said Streep, who then realized her error and cried: “Oop.”
A very emotional Meryl then admitted she was taken aback by the Trump campaign and division across the nation.
She said: “I think the word of the day has been ‘preventable.’ All of this, the venom, hatred, toxicity and encouraging one segment of Americans to hate another segment of Americans. It’s crazy, we’re done with it.”
The actress said she thought Harris would win, but asked what would happen if Trump didn’t accept the result.
Thanking the actress for being there, Harris replied: “We will be ready. More Americans than we may realize, who voted for Trump before, have decided January 6 was a bridge too far.
“The President of the United States, sitting in the Oval Office, incited a violent mob to attack the US Capitol. To upend a free and fair election. That was a bridge too far for a lot of people.
“We have sadly now seen how far he could go. I think there is absolutely no tolerance whatsoever for the vast majority of elections. They’ve seen the lies.”
Harris said everyone needs to speak to friends and neighbors about misinformation and “don’t be afraid to vote.”
Meryl was not the only Hollywood celebrity to endorse Kamala this evening with the list including Chris Rock, Bryan Cranston, Jennifer Lopez and Julia Roberts to name a few. | via Daily Express US
