Marcos rejects call to suspend the implementation of the PUV modernization program

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, August 7, rejected the senators’ proposal to suspend the implementation of the Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program since the majority of PUVs nationwide have complied with the consolidation requirement.

“Well, I disagree with them because sinasabi nila minadali. This has been postponed seven times. The modernization has been postponed seven times,” Marcos told media reporters in a media interview in Pampanga when asked about his thoughts on the Senate’s recommendation.

“Eighty percent have already consolidated. So, papaano naman? Iyong twenty percent ang magde-decide ‘yung buhay ng 100 percent. Pakinggan natin ‘yung majority at ang majority, sinasabi ituloy natin. So, that’s what we will do,” Marcos added.

The PUV modernization program aims to improve public transportation by introducing newer, safer, and more environmentally friendly vehicles.

However, 22 out of 23 senators backed a resolution calling for a temporary halt to the implementation of the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP), previously referred to as the PUV Modernization Program. (TCSP)
