OCTA poll: Most Pinoys back POGO ban

Most Filipinos backed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s decision to completely ban the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) in the country.

OCTA Research’s Tugon ng Masa (TNM) poll conducted from June 26 to July 1, 2024, found that 83 percent of Filipinos want to ban POGOs, while only 12 percent are against the idea.

The results came after Marcos said during his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) that he wanted to ban all POGO operations in the country before the end of the year.

Among major areas, Balance Luzon – or areas outside Metro Manila – has the highest agreement rating on banning POGO operations in the country at 90 percent.

On the other hand, people in the National Capital Region have the highest disagreement rating on banning POGO operations at 20 percent.

People’s political views are also reflected in the polls, with 85 percent of adult Filipinos saying they would vote for candidates who are against offshore gaming businesses.

“Among major areas, Balance Luzon has the highest voting preference for the candidate who supports banning POGO operations in the country, with 93 percent,” OCTA Research said.

OCTA Research stated that the survey has a ±3 percent margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level.

The subnational estimates for the geographic areas covered by the survey have the following margins of error at a 95 percent confidence level: ±6 percent for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. (TCSP)
