Marcos unfazed by Duterte family’s 2025 Senate bids

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is unfazed by the plan of former president Rodrigo Duterte and his two sons, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, to join the senatorial derby in the 2025 midterm elections.

In a media interview after attending the National Employment Summit at the Manila Hotel on Thursday, June 27, Marcos said he is not reacting to Vice President Sara Duterte’s announcement that her father and her two siblings were all running for the Senate in 2025.

“It’s a free country. They’re allowed to do what it is that they want. I have no reaction to it. Besides, it’s still early,” Marcos said.

He emphasized the uncertainty of such long-term plans, suggesting that much could change between now and the 2028 presidential election.

“The only real, the only real situation will become clear in October, sa filing. Then we will see really kung tatakbo ba talaga, sino ba talagang tatakbo? Sino — kanino sasama? What are the parties involved? Which parties are in alliance with which? Iyon lang natin makikikta sa Oktubre,” Marcos added.

Additionally, Marcos said that the UniTeam, his alliance with the Vice President from the 2022 elections, would not be affected by the former first family’s intention to run for office.

But Marcos said that UniTeam’s stance will be determined by the Vice President’s choice in the next elections. (TCSP)
