To say that Unkaboggable star Vice Ganda was disappointed over the cancelation of the Pride event in Quezon City is an understatement.
More than disappointed, she was shocked when it was cancelled.
“Natulala ako kasi ang taas noong excitement, eh. Ako mismo sa personal, sobra akong excited. Para siyang premiere night ng pelikula ko, para siyang ganon. Sobrang halaga sa akin nitong Pride event na ito,” she said in an interview with MJ Felipe.
“Iba ‘yung kagustuhan kong makapagsalita, makapag-perform noong gabi na ‘yon. Parang mas dama ko siya. Nag-grow na siya sa akin, yung adbokadiya ng komumidad natin kaya pinaghandaan ko talaga siya. Pinaghandaan ko talaga siya. Ginastusan ko talaga siya,” the It’s Showtime host added.
Vice Ganda said that what she’s mounting is like a concert, a protest in a form of a concert.
What she also regretted the most is the performance of a very special guest.
“Meron akong pasabog na special guest. Ang saya-saya ko na napapayag ko siya. First Pride performance niya rin yon. For the longest time, she’s been LGBTQ+ community icon pero first grand performance niya. Hindi natuloy and I felt so sorry. Natulala talaga ako. Nong sinabi nila na nagkaproblema na, kinakabahan na ako,” she related.
But Vice Ganda felt the cancellation was necessary.
“Paano kung may napahamak? At the end of the day, life is most valuable. Paano kung may mapahamak, may nasaktan, magkagulo? Ayaw nating lahat yun,” she explained.
Vice Ganda related that someone from It’s Showtime called her up and asked her if she’s willing to do it in the noontime show.
“Ang problema kasi is ‘yung production value. Hindi siya pang- indoor kasi may mga element ng fire, may too siyang apoy, may mga nababasag, pangmalaki siyang venue, yung hydraulics mataas na mataas, yung pakpak malaki, hindi siya pang-indoor,” she said.
So, how big is the production?
Vice Ganda said there’s 50 dancers, 30 dancing choir, a full band set-up and five costume changes. (NIGEL CHAVEZ DE ESTRADA)
