Vice President Sara Duterte said the Uniteam, the political alliance that secured a decisive victory in the 2022 elections, is just temporary.

Speaking to reporters in a recent interview, Duterte expressed gratitude for the support the tandem received but emphasized that the coalition has served its purpose.

“Uniteam was the tandem during the 2022 elections,” Duterte said. “And then ngayon na tapos na ang elections, nanalo na kami. Nagpapasalamat kami sa aming kababayan sa kanilang suporta sa tandem ng Uniteam noong 2022.”

When asked directly if the UniTeam still exists, Duterte clarified the situation. “We are not candidates anymore,” she explained, indicating that the coalition, which was instrumental in their electoral success, has disbanded now that the election period is over.

The Uniteam started to reveal cracks when First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos said that the Vice President had given her a “bad shot” after being seen on camera laughing while her father had criticized the President during the Davao event in January.

At a Davao City prayer meeting earlier this year, former President Rodrigo Duterte accused Marcos of taking illegal drugs. President disputed his accusations.

House of Representatives Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Marcos’ cousin, also demoted Pampanga’s 2nd District Representative and former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to senior deputy speaker. As a response, Vice President Duterte left Romualdez’s party, Lakas-CMD.

The Romualdez-led House likewise deprived the Vice President of her confidential monies under the 2024 national budget. (TCSP)
