Former Senator Trillanes speaks on Good Governance for the Political Science Week

DEMOCRATIC advocate former Sen. Antonio Trillanes finds it imperative to revisit the Filipino struggles even before the Philippines became a free country.

In time for the Political Science Week, Trillanes, who has his own share of struggle while serving the country as a soldier for the Armed Forces of the Philippines, will be speaking before the National University Philippines’ Political Science students at the NU Manila campus on June 14.

Primarily aimed at providing a deeper understanding on the basic principles and dynamics of a conducive political landscape, Trillanes will be leading the discussion in the symposium dubbed as “Good Governance: Road to Democracy” for which he is expected to share his own experiences of his trek and struggles while fighting for what is deemed morally upright.

A founding member of the Magdalo Group, a bunch of idealist junior officers, Trillanes paid a costly price for what he believed was right at a time when corruption in the government was at its worst.

While behind bars, Trillanes also made history as the first ever to win a senatorial seat without spending a dime – and in prison, at that.

During the Duterte administration, he was the most vocal critic of then President Rodrigo Duterte whom he has accused of ceding the West Philippine Sea to China, and allowed entry the influx of Chinese nationals in the guise of being offshore gaming operator. (ANGEL F. JOSE)
