UP, 2 PH universities climb in QS world rankings

Three Philippine universities rose in the in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2025, while two others fell a few places.

Data released by the UK-based higher education company on Wednesday showed that the University of the Philippines (UP) remained the top-ranked Philippine institution, climbing to 336 from 404. UP is also No. 18 in Asia.

The Ateneo de Manila University likewise climbed to 516 from 563, while De La Salle University rose to the 641-650 bracket from 681–690 range.

However, the University of Santo Tomas dropped from 801-1,000 to 851-900 bracket.

Debuted in the 2024 QS rankings at the 1,201-1,400 bracket, the Cebu-based University of San Carlos also fell to 1401+ band.

For a record thirteenth year running, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was ranked as the top institution in the world.

“Imperial College London jumps four places to take second and the University of Oxford and Harvard University are in third and fourth place respectively. The University of Cambridge rounds out the top five,” QS said.

Furthermore holding onto its top position in Asia and ranking eighth globally is the National University of Singapore.

Featuring more than 1,500 universities spread over 105 higher education systems, QS claimed that the 2025 world university ranking “is the largest ever.”

QS added that it has used its “largest-ever methodological enhancement” which included three new measures: sustainability, job results, and global research network. (TCSP)
