The Philippines has strongly reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, calling an independent, two-state solution the only viable path toward lasting peace in the Middle East.
Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly on September 26, 2026, Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro explicitly stated, “We reiterate our call for an immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza.”
Lazaro emphasized the critical importance of Israel and Palestine coexisting peacefully and securely, urging all international parties to respect their coexistence.
The declaration follows a major diplomatic statement made two days prior.
On September 24, the Philippine delegation staged a walkout during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the assembly.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), joining the walkout was a deliberate move to express global solidarity for peace in the region and to demand that all parties “desist from unilateral actions that erode the conditions of peace.” # (ZIA LUNA)
